After recently losing out on free agents Jamal Crawford and Shawne Williams, the Knicks have a new hope: Mo Williams.
Williams, 28, split last season playing with the struggling Cavaliers and the pre-CP3 Clippers and put up averages of 14 points and 6.6 assists in 58 games.
However, Williams is speculated to be waived via the amnesty clause because the Clippers now have Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups, and Eric Bledsoe (who are all point guards).
If he is waived, the Knicks should try to claim him or sign him once he clears waivers. New York should use whatever money and cap space they have left to sign him. Williams would presumably be the Knicks' starting point guard over Toney Douglas and Mike Bibby and should be willing take less money for a better shot at winning a championship.
With the Knicks' current roster, I picture them eventually losing in the Eastern Conference Finals or Semi-Finals. With Williams at the point for them, they would have a much better shot at winning the title.
I am urging the Knicks to sign Mo Williams!!! If the Heat steal him, New York's title hopes might have to wait for the 2012-13 season.
